Info about what the Product Validation Engineer role entails
This is a hands-on role supporting the development, build and validation of prototype products within a cutting-edge R&D environment. You will be responsible for building prototype units, assembling mechanical and electronic components, setting up and running validation tests, and producing clear test documentation and reports.
In addition, the role includes responsibility for test equipment calibration and maintenance, ensuring all equipment remains compliant, traceable and fit for purpose. This position is ideal for an electromechanical technician who enjoys practical build, testing, and working closely with engineering and development teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Mechanically and electrically assemble prototype products to the highest quality standards.
- Build and test electronic modules, including wiring and soldering activities.
- Generate clear and accurate build documentation.
- Set up and carry out product validation and verification tests in line with defined procedures.
- Design and build basic test jigs and fixtures to support validation activity.
- Produce test documentation, reports and records to support development and compliance.
- Support the development of test strategies for current and future products.
- Manage calibration and maintenance of test equipment across UK facilities.
- Maintain and update test equipment inventory and calibration records.
- Coordinate with internal teams and external suppliers to ensure equipment remains calibrated and compliant.
- Ensure equipment management processes meet ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 requirements.
- Monitor equipment condition, calibration status and associated budgets.
- Promote continuous improvement in test equipment and calibration processes.
Essential Requirements of the Product Validation Engineer
- HNC / Level 4 (or higher) qualification in an electrical, electronic, mechanical or electromechanical discipline.
- Proven experience working as an electromechanical technician within an R&D, test or product development environment.
- Hands-on experience using laboratory test equipment such as oscilloscopes, meters, current clamps and data loggers.
- Strong soldering and wiring skills.
- Experience testing low-voltage products.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
- Experience following test procedures and producing structured test reports.
- Understanding of test equipment calibration and maintenance processes.
Desirable Requirements of the Product Validation Engineer
- IPC 610 certification.
- Knowledge of ISO 17025 requirements.
- Understanding of calibration factors such as accuracy, resolution, range and measurement uncertainty.
- Experience working in high-performance or motorsport-style engineering environments.
